AIHPS focuses its work around five research streams that align closely with Australia's designated National Research Priorities (NRP2).
1. Engaging consumers in health policy
This research stream examines the processes used to involve consumers in decisions about health policy and funding allocation, and questions the role of consumers in contributing to health policy-making. Click here for more information about Research Stream 1 Engaging consumers in health policy
2. Financing for prevention
This second research stream focuses on the strategies used to promote health, and explores the ways that policy initiatives can contribute to chronic disease prevention. Click here for more information about Research Stream 2 Financing for prevention.
3. Improving chronic disease outcomes through better prevention
This research stream explores the ways that health policy can contribute to better integrated care for people with chronic disease, and considers how the escalating costs of chronic disease can be managed through policy decisions. 4. Improving bases and processes for health priority setting
This stream focuses on the policies and practices that inform funding decisions in health, and contributes to the research needed to inform tough decisions about health budget allocation. 5. Responsive and adaptable health workforce
This stream examines the policy implications of the skills required by the Australian health workforce and aims to move debate beyond the number of available doctors and nurses to a discussion of the capacities required for the entire health system.
