Engaging citizens in Australia's future health policy: Building and applying the evidence.
Effective citizen engagement requires the involvement of consumers and other citizens in developing health policy about issues that affect them.
Most policy-makers agree this is a new and very important way that governments need to do their business. It was also a key commitment emerging from the Australia 2020 Summit.
But what does citizen engagement really mean in practice? A research process? A consumer representative? Public meetings? Submissions? Publicity to ensure that consumers are on-side for a soon-to-be-released decision?: Detailed discussions about the complexities of policy issues?
And what about citizen's role in decision-making? Do they inform decisions? Contribute to decisions? Become integral to the decision-making process?
We invite leaders from governments, non-government organisations and other community organisations, health service organisations and toher health industry-related organisations and academic institutions to attend this forum to debate and discuss how Australia's citizens can have more involvement in Australia's health.
