Work Program PDF Print E-mail

The Australian Institute of Health Policy Studies (AIHPS) manages a diverse and growing work program that focuses on national events, research projects, and information dissemination. The work program is linked to AIHPS’s five research streams.

National events

AIHPS organises regular National Roundtables and Seminars to facilitate debate on policy-relevant issues and identify the evidence base required for major health reform. The AIHPS Roundtables and Seminars provide an opportunity for cross-disciplinary and inter-organisational discussion.

The AIHPS Roundtables are fully funded by AIHPS’s partners and are limited to 70 attendees. Many Roundtables are accompanied by a Briefing Paper, available in advance to participants. A summary of each Roundtable is available on the AIHPS website.

The Roundtables are interactive, facilitated events where participants contribute to the debate and agreed outcomes are developed. AIHPS’s Seminars follow a traditional format of presentations followed by questions and discussion.

Jurisdictional workshops and training

From 2007, AIHPS will offer workshops or symposia tailored to the particular needs of the jurisdictions providing funding support to AIHPS. The first workshop, scheduled for 2008, will see the launch of the AIHPS Leadership for Health Program and incorporate the work undertaken in the by Professor Richard Southby.

Research projects

Through its research projects, AIHPS contributes to the evidence base needed for solid health policy reform and stimulates debate about the direction of ’s health system. The research projects also build on important partnerships for AIHPS with the academic and business communities, with government, and with industry.

Capacity building and communication

IHPS is developing a clearinghouse of information about health policy research, news, and events from and around the world. The clearinghouse, still in its infancy, is available via the AIHPS website.

Website and E-Updates
The AIHPS website was established in 2005 to provide an interface between the Institute’s work and its members. AIHPS publishes regular E-Updates (electronic newsletters), which are sent to all subscribers and made available via the website. During 2007, issues of the E-Update will be distributed on a bi-monthly basis.

The Australia New Zealand Health Policy Journal (ANZHP) is an open-access, peer reviewed journal focusing on publishing health policy-relevant research and debate. In 2007, AIHPS will formalise its links with the Journal in a way that ensures both the Journal’s and the Institute’s independence and the Journal’s editorial freedom.
